Your Lash Lift, Brow Lamination & Lash Extension FAQs: Custom Beauty Treatments for a Natural, Low-Maintenance Look
Considering a lash lift, brow lamination, or lash extensions but have approximately 47 questions first? We get it.
Your lashes and brows are small features, but when you're trusting someone with them—especially around your eyes, it makes sense to want to know exactly what you're getting into.
Will a lash lift damage my natural lashes? Can I get my brows wet after a brow lamination? How long does a lash lift actually last? Are lash extensions bad for your natural lashes? What happens if I don't like my brow lamination? And perhaps the most important question of all: will I still look like myself?
At Faces by Fair, our approach to lashes and brows is intentionally different. We aren't here to give everyone the same curl, the same brow shape, or the most dramatic result possible.
We're here to understand your natural features, your lifestyle, your maintenance preferences, and what you actually want to wake up looking like.
So whether you're considering your first lash lift, Korean lash lift, brow lamination, brow shaping, lash tint, or lash extensions in Toronto, here's everything we want you to know before booking.
First things first: Are custom lash lifts, brow laminations and lash extensions considered safe and low-maintence beauty treatments?
When performed correctly by a trained professional using appropriate professional products, lash and brow treatments can be a fun and safe way to enhance your natural features.
The important part is: who is performing the service, what products they're using, how those products are applied, and whether the treatment is appropriate for you.
At Faces by Fair, we use professional-grade products specifically formulated for lash and brow services and select products with Canadian cosmetic requirements in mind. We also follow professional application, sanitation and processing protocols designed around the health of your natural lashes, brows and surrounding skin.
It's worth knowing that "Health Canada approved" isn't technically the right terminology for cosmetics. Health Canada regulates cosmetics under Canada's Food and Drugs Act and Cosmetic Regulations, and manufacturers/importers have responsibilities around cosmetic notification, ingredients, labelling and safety. Cosmetics aren't pre-approved by Health Canada in the same way that certain drugs or medical products are. Faces by Fair takes pride in only using professional-grade products that are compliant with Canadian cosmetic requirements. Health Canada also specifically advises that eyelash and eyebrow treatments should be performed professionally.
In other words: we take product safety seriously—and we don't use random products ordered from the internet just because they promise a dramatic before-and-after.

Lash Lift FAQs
What is a lash lift?
A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that reshapes your natural eyelashes to create the appearance of longer, more lifted and more eye-opening looking lashes.
Instead of adding anything to your natural lashes, a lash lift works with the lashes you already have.
Your natural lashes are carefully positioned on a silicone shield and treated with professional lifting and setting solutions to reshape the lash from its natural direction into a lifted curl form,
Think of it as a little "reset" for your natural lashes.
The result can make your eyes look more open and your lashes appear longer and darker—especially when paired with a lash tint.
What is a Korean lash lift?
A Korean lash lift is a lash-lifting technique that focuses on reshaping the natural lash from the root through the length of the lash rather than simply creating a traditional curl.
At Faces by Fair, our Korean lash lift is particularly loved by clients with short, straight, downward-growing or stubborn lashes who want visible lift without the overly curled or "surprised" look they may have experienced with traditional lash lifts.
The goal is a soft, controlled, vertical lift that opens the eye while keeping the result looking like your lashes—just better.
Our Korean lash lift uses a professional system with a gentler cysteamine-based formulation and is performed with careful attention to processing time and the condition of your natural lashes. Lashes are left visibly softer, healthier and more nourished.
Does a lash lift damage your natural lashes?
A properly performed lash lift should not be damaging your natural lashes.
That said, a lash lift is a chemical treatment, so technique matters.
Over-processing, incorrect timing, inappropriate product selection or repeatedly treating compromised lashes can lead to dryness, brittleness or breakage.
This is why we don't believe in simply asking, "How strong can we make the lift?"
Instead, we're asking:
What can your natural lashes safely handle while still giving you the result you want?
At FBF, we assess your natural lash length, density, direction and condition before deciding how to approach your lift.
Sometimes the most beautiful lash lift is the one where we know when to stop.
How long does a lash lift last?
A lash lift typically lasts around 6–8 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle, the condition of your lashes and how quickly your lashes naturally shed and regrow.
Because your lashes are constantly going through their natural growth cycle, the lift gradually grows out rather than suddenly disappearing.
You may notice some lashes returning to their natural direction before others, which is completely normal. It's safe to repeat a Korean Lash Lift a bit earlier as the products are even more gentle at around 5+ weeks if needed.
Can I get my lashes wet after a lash lift?
This is one of the biggest lash lift myths.
You've probably heard that you absolutely cannot get your lashes wet for 24 or 48 hours after a lash lift.
The truth is that aftercare recommendations can vary depending on the lash-lifting system and products used by the artist,
The old idea that water automatically "ruins" a lash lift isn't universally true.
At Faces by Fair, we provide aftercare instructions based on the professional system and products used for your specific service. Once your treatment has been properly completed, normal activities such as washing your face, showering and getting your lashes wet shouldn't be something you need to be terrified of.
Your lash lift should fit into your life—not require you to spend two days avoiding your own shower.
Your artist will still let you know exactly what we recommend immediately following your appointment along with a handy text to remind you as well.
Can I wear mascara after a lash lift?
Yes. One of the reasons clients love a lash lift is that it can make mascara application so much easier.
That said, many clients find they don't need mascara at all—especially when they've had a lash tint along with the lift.
A lash lift + tint can give the appearance of darker, lifted, more defined lashes without the daily curling and layering of mascara.
Using our favourite aftercare Renew Conditioner, you'll get the same look and effect without the mess!
How often can I get a lash lift?
Most clients book their next lash lift around 6–8 weeks, but timing should be based on your individual lash growth cycle and the condition of your natural lashes.
We don't recommend repeatedly lifting lashes that are still visibly lifted unless you have a special event within 5 weeks. Sometimes waiting a little longer is exactly what your lashes need.
Can I get a lash lift if I have short lashes?
Absolutely.
In fact, short, straight lashes can be some of our favourite lash lift transformations, especially with the Korean lash lift technique.
A well-designed lift can make short lashes appear more visible and open up the eye without adding extensions.
However, lash length, density, direction and eye shape all affect the final result. Your artist will be determine what kind of lift is realistic for your natural lashes.
Brow Lamination FAQ's
What is a brow lamination?
A brow lamination is a semi-permanent brow treatment that restructures the direction of your natural brow hairs, allowing them to be brushed into a fuller, more lifted and polished shape.
It's essentially a way of making your existing brow hairs more cooperative.
Brow lamination can be especially helpful for:
Sparse-looking brows that actually have plenty of hair
Brow hairs that grow downward
Uneven brow direction
Brows that are difficult to style
Clients who want a fuller-looking brow without permanent makeup
Anyone who loves that fluffy, brushed-up brow look
At FBF, brow lamination isn't about making every hair stand straight up.
It's about creating shape, balance and fullness while keeping your brows looking like they belong to you.
Does brow lamination damage your brows?
Like a lash lift, brow lamination uses chemical products to temporarily restructure the hair. That means professional technique and appropriate processing matter.
Over-processing can leave brow hairs dry, brittle or weakened.
This is why we don't approach every brow with the same processing time or the same finish. Some brows need a stronger restructure. Others need a softer, more natural result.
Our goal isn't the biggest brow possible.
It's the healthiest-looking brow that gives you the shape you're actually after.
How long does brow lamination last?
A brow lamination generally lasts around 4–6 weeks, depending on your individual hair growth cycle, hair texture and how you care for your brows.
As your natural brow hairs grow and shed, the laminated effect gradually softens.
If you love a fluffy, styled brow but don't want to constantly brush and set your brows every morning, brow lamination can be a beautiful low-maintenance option.
Can you get your brows wet after brow lamination?
Yes—and this is another big beauty myth.
You've probably heard that laminated brows can't get wet for 24–48 hours.
But water itself doesn't magically "undo" a properly completed brow lamination.
The exact aftercare recommendations depend on the professional system used, which is why your artist will give you specific instructions after your appointment.
Once you've followed the immediate aftercare recommendations, your brows are not meant to become something you have to carefully protect from every drop of water.
You can wash your face.
You can shower.
You can live your life.
We want your beauty routine to feel easier, not like you've acquired a new set of rules.
Can I brush my brows after brow lamination?
Yes—and we actually encourage gentle daily brushing.
One of the best things about brow lamination is that you can use a spoolie to guide your brow hairs into your desired shape.
You don't need to aggressively brush them into place.
A few gentle strokes in the direction your artist recommends is usually all it takes.
Can I get a brow tint with my brow lamination?
Yes. A brow lamination + tint can create an especially defined, fuller-looking result.
Tint adds depth to the brow hairs, while lamination changes their direction and shape.
However, not everyone needs tint.
If you already have naturally dark brows, your ideal result might simply be a soft lamination and shape.
Will brow lamination make my brows look too dark or dramatic?
Not if that isn't what suits you. This is where customization matters.
A brow lamination can be fluffy and soft, structured and polished, or somewhere in between. Your result depends on your natural brow density, hair colour, shape and the way the hairs are styled.
At FBF, we aren't chasing one universal "laminated brow" that can appear spiky and severe. We're creating your version that fits you.
Lash Extension FAQs
Do lash extensions damage your natural lashes?
Lash extensions aren't inherently damaging—but poor application can be.
When extensions are appropriately selected for your natural lash strength and applied correctly, your natural lashes should be able to continue through their normal growth cycle.
Problems can occur when extensions are too heavy, too long, improperly attached, stuck together or repeatedly applied incorrectly without considering the natural lashes.
This is why lash extensions aren't simply about choosing a curl and length from a menu.
Your artist should consider your natural lash density, thickness, length, eye shape and lifestyle when designing your set.
At FBF, the goal is never "how much lash can we put on?"
It's: How beautiful can we make your eyes while respecting the lashes you naturally have?
How long do lash extensions last?
Individual lash extensions naturally shed as your natural lashes complete their growth cycle.
Most clients book lash extension fills every 3 weeks, depending on their natural lash cycle, desired fullness and how they care for their extensions.
Some clients prefer a softer, more grown-out look and go longer between appointments, while others like their lashes consistently full.
Can You Wear Lash Extensions Over a Lash Lift?
Yes, but with the right curl! At Faces by Fair, we call this a hybrid lash lift: a custom lash lift (of any kind) that gives your natural lashes a soft, lifted curve, finished with a few lash extensions for a sprinkle of length and fullness.
The secret is in the curl. When your artist chooses an extension curl that follows the shape of your lifted lashes instead of working against it, the extensions sit comfortably alongside your natural lashes, with no tugging, crossing, or extra strain. The result is a natural, low-maintenance look that’s ready when you are.
Dreaming of a Halfsie or Full Set instead? Since those involve applying more extensions than a hybrid lash lift, we recommend waiting at least 2 weeks after your lift before booking. Not sure which option suits you? Not to worry, we’ll map it out together at your appointment!
Can I shower with lash extensions?
Absolutely.
Lash extensions are designed to be worn during normal daily activities, including showering and washing your face.
The myth that lash extensions must never get wet is super outdated.
In fact, keeping your lash line clean is an important part of healthy lash extension aftercare.
The key is to clean them gently using an extension-safe and pH balanced cleanser and avoid rubbing, pulling or picking at the extensions.
Can I swim with lash extensions?
Yes, of course.
Whether you're swimming, working out, travelling or simply living a normal life, your lash extensions should be able to fit into your routine seamlessly.
Just remember: chlorine, salt water, sunscreen, makeup and oils can affect retention, so gentle cleansing after swimming (especially salt water) is important to keep them fluffy.
Are lash extensions worth it?
Honestly?
If your dream is to wake up looking more put together without having to curl your lashes, apply mascara or do a full eye makeup routine every morning—they definitely are.
Lash extensions can be particularly convenient for busy women, frequent travellers, new moms, professionals, brides or anyone who simply likes feeling a little more "done" with less effort. The time saved every day is priceless!
Lash Lift vs. Lash Extensions: Which One Is Better?
Neither is "better." They're just different.
Choose a custom lash lift if you:
Love your natural lashes
Want a more natural-looking enhancement
Have straight or downward-growing lashes
Want to throw out your damaging lash curler
Prefer appointments every 6–8 weeks
Want a lower-maintenance beauty routine
Choose custom lash extensions if you:
Want more volume or length
Love a defined lash line
Want to skip mascara altogether
Prefer a more noticeable eye enhancement
Are comfortable with regular fill appointments
Want your lashes to look styled every day without doing any work
And if you're still not sure?
That's exactly what your consultation is for.
Can I Get a Lash Lift and Brow Lamination at the Same Time?
Absolutely! A lash lift + brow lamination is one of our favourite combinations at Faces by Fair for clients who want to look more polished without looking overly made up.
Together, they can open up the eyes, create more structure through the face and make your natural features look more defined.
It's essentially the beauty equivalent of having your life together—even if your inbox says otherwise.
How Do I Know Which Lash or Brow Service Is Right for Me?
This is probably the most important question of all.
You don't necessarily need to know.
You don't have to walk into your appointment knowing whether you need a Korean lash lift, traditional lash lift, brow lamination, brow stain, lash extensions or simply a really good brow shape. That's our job!
At Faces by Fair, we look at your natural features, eye shape, brow growth pattern, lash health, lifestyle and desired level of maintenance before recommending a service.
Because the treatment that looks incredible on someone else might not be the treatment that makes sense for you.
What If I Have Sensitive Skin or Eyes?
Let your artist know before your appointment on your intake form,
If you've experienced reactions to beauty treatments, hair colour, lash or brow products, adhesives or cosmetics in the past, tell us.
We can discuss your concerns and determine whether the service is appropriate for you.
If you have an active eye infection, significant irritation or another eye-related concern, your appointment may need to be postponed until the area has fully recovered.
And if you have a specific medical or eye condition, we may recommend speaking with your healthcare provider before proceeding.
Your safety and comfort always comes first.
Do Lash and Brow Treatments Hurt?
No—not when they're performed correctly.
A lash lift, brow lamination, brow shaping and lash extensions should not be painful.
You may experience mild sensations during certain services, but pain, significant burning or severe discomfort is not something you should simply "push through."
If something doesn't feel right during your appointment, tell your artist immediately.
At FBF our clients usually take a nap, listen to a podcast or simply enjoy some undivided quiet time for themselves.
How Should I Prepare for My Lash or Brow Appointment?
The best thing you can do is arrive with a clean treatment area whenever possible.
For lash appointments, we recommend avoiding heavy eye makeup immediately before your service.
For brow appointments, let us know about any recent exfoliating treatments, retinoid use, waxing, peels or other skin treatments that may affect the brow area.
And perhaps most importantly: come with your questions.
You don't need to be the beauty expert. That's what we're here for!
The FBF Approach to Lashes & Brows
We believe beauty appointments should feel like an exhale.
No intimidating terminology.
No pressure to choose the most dramatic or trending option.
No one-size-fits-all lash map or brow shape.
And definitely no leaving the studio wondering whether you accidentally asked for someone else's eyebrows.
At Faces by Fair, every lash and brow service is designed around your natural features first.
Because the best lash lift isn't necessarily the biggest lift.
The best brow isn't necessarily the fluffiest brow.
And the best lash extensions aren't necessarily the fullest set.
It's the result that makes you look in the mirror and think, "Oh. There I am."
Still Have Questions About Lash or Brow Services?
If you're somewhere between "I definitely want to try this" and "I have approximately 14 more questions first," we're here for that too.
You can explore our lash and brow services in Toronto, take our beauty quiz, or book a virtual consultation and we'll help you figure out what makes the most sense for your features and your routine.
Your lashes and brows don't need to look dramatically different.
They just improve everything when they look really, really good!
